A Weeks Worth of Nonsense

I finally got my computer back!  Yea!  Thanks Scott for your great mind - and your ability to fix computers.
I would be lost without you.

I went out to dinner with a friend yesterday.  We went to Bar Italia.  We had a great time.  Dinner was good.  I think I enjoyed it more than Lisa (my pal) cause she paid!  Thanks Lisa

I went to a Networking function.  This was my first one.  It was interesting.  I met many great people.  Most of them were employeed.  Maybe somebody thought I was cute and will offer me a job.  Not likely.  I was painfully aware that I am not 30 any longer.  30 is the perfect age for a woman in business.  They are still young enough to be hip and cool - And still look great in that professional sleeveless dress.  25 is still to young, they haven't been around long enough to know the ropes, but 30 - that is the perfect age.  By the time you are 40 something, you are on your way down hill and most of us don't look great when we bare our upper arms.  They say that 50 is the new 30.  I hope so.  That would put me right at approaching cool and hip.  A girl can dream can't she?

Denim Dan took me out to dinner tonight.  I love that he takes me on dates.

T2 came over for dinner this week.  It was good to spend time with him and Oliver the pup.

I finished reading Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt.  If you have't read it yet, grab a copy and read it.  I will be posting the book group questions next week so get busy.  It is a fast read and a heartwarming, feel good story.  Goodness knows a feel good story is always welcome in my life.

The baby shower is this weekend.  I am looking forward to getting to T1's house.  He has lived there for over a month and I haven't been able to get there yet.  It is about 100 miles away so I can't just pop over, which I am sure was by his design, but we have had something going on every weekend since he moved.  I will post pictures next week of the shower.  I am so looking forward to it.

I finally got some bulbs planted at Dan's.  But I am afraid that the bunnies are going to eat the blooms.  If anyone has any suggestions on how to keep that from happening please let me know.

I am gathering recipes for Cinco de' Mayo - if you have a favorite mexican recipe you would like me to try send it to me and I will post if for everyone.
If anyone has a suggestion for a book to read that you want to share comments on - please just leave a comment or send me an email. I love comments on my blog.

Can you tell I would like to hear from you?  I am lonely here all alone in my own little computer world.

I Am Being Held Hostage

I am being held hostage by a computer virus.  This in no way will affect your computer, but mine is at the computer doctor right now.  I only have access to a very old and slow computer.  My computer should be healed within 24 hours.

Right now I am using this time to:
Get caught up with my laundry - the mountain has turned into a hill - woo hoo
Read Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt - this is a good book - I have laughed and cried - I am 1/2 way through it - if you haven't picked up a copy - it is turning out to be pretty good read - order a copy from Amazon here - Saving CeeCee Honeycutt: A Novel
Nap - I never miss the opportunity for a nap
Look for a job - which is very difficult to do without a fast computer
Paint my toenails - I need to get this polish off from last September
Stare into space - Doing that a lot

I will be back to posting hopefully by tomorrow -

Make today count!
Love Lisa

I Love to Read - Do You?

I will be starting an online book group. This is something that I have wanted to do for quite some time. I am very excited to be sharing this with you.
The Book:
The first book I will be reading is Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman. CeeCee is a young girl who endures a lot in her short life, until her Aunt steps in to save her. This is a light hearted, southern book, which tells a truthful story of desperation laced with hope. The characters are funny and enjoyable as they breathe life back into CeeCee. Take a look at the reviews by clicking on the Amazon link.

How It Will Work:
Read the book and visit the blog. Read the thought provoking questions, comments that others have left and leave your own comment. Comments are not reviews of the book, but they can be. Comments should be full of insight as we explore the book and these characters together. I will have further information about the date of the book group post soon. (I have to read the book first!)

It will be great fun. Please join us.  If you like to read, pick up a copy and join in.

Happy Easter

I hope everyone had a great Easter. My house was filled with friends and family. We had a great time and enjoyed that bourbon ham. I have to tell you, if you haven't tried it - now is the time! I promise you will LOVE it. I received a text message from T2 - he was here for brunch and went to his Grandmother's house for dinner. It said, and I quote "Your ham was better than Grandma's." Now luckily he wasn't talking about my Mom - but I felt proud - like I had passed a mile stone or something. Wow! I cook better than Grandma - wait - I am a Grandma - and will be again in June. I can't wait for the baby shower next week. I will post lots of pictures.
A couple weeks ago I was invited to go to the ultra sound. It was 4-D - whatever that means. But I saw the baby in C's belly - with all the fat. I saw perfect little lips and chubby little cheeks - I can't wait to meet her.

T2 brought his dog over for Easter brunch. Wow! Puppies are as much trouble as babies. This puppy likes to chew on my toes. His baby teeth are sharp and it kind of hurt - in a puppy love kind of way. This is Oliver, we call him Ollie.

He is very high maintenance! But fun just the same.

This is T2 with Ollie - they make a cute couple.

This is T3 - he doesn't like to have his picture taken.
He is afraid someone will recognize him.

T1 had to work and was not able to join us, but he is supporting a wife and a 5 year old boy, and has a baby on the way so I guess I will forgive him for that.

This is Danny - he isn't related to anyone but he keeps showing up so I keep feeding him.
He is a good kid, but he needs to find a comb.

We had a great time today. Happy Easter to everyone!

Sleep Deprivation

I have not had one wink of sleep in the last, wait I almost did math - let me just say that it is 8:15AM and I did not sleep a wink last night. I think I have a disorder, either that or I grabbed a diet coke with caffeine instead of without around 8:00PM, and I am going through some great sensitivity to caffeine these days. I sat looking around like Wile E Coyote big. bloodshot, bug eyes, (I don't think I even blinked) until about 4:15 this morning. Everyone knows there is no point in going to sleep at that hour because it will just mess me up for a week.

The only high point is that I got to talk to Denim Dan and have an actual conversation with him before he went to work. You know, something more than:
Dan - Good Morning

Me: ugh yeah

Dan - What do you have going today?

Me - dunno I'll let you know when it starts

Dan - Well, have a good day I Love you

Me - ugh yeah me too!

Now let me just go on record and say that I started these early morning conversations. After we had been dating for about a year, I had some delusional idea that he should call me on his way to work. I wanted his voice to be the first voice I heard when I started my day. I thought, how wonderful to start the day talking to friend instead of foe. (With 3 almost grown boys - it is always a crap shoot what I will get when I wake them up.) There were two things wrong with that plan, besides how absolutely sickening sweet and mushy it was.

1. That I would actually be able to talk to anyone at that hour

2. That my day would start at that hour

But the tradition continues and a morning does not go by that I don’t speak to him before I speak to anyone else. Even if it is kind of sappy, and even if it is at an ungodly hour, I find comfort starting my day that way.
You see, Denim Dan wakes the roosters up when he leaves for work, and then he wakes me up.

But today we actually had a conversation. Here is what I learned. As much as I Love Denim Dan, I don't really enjoy speaking to him at that hour of the morning. Or maybe I should say he didn't enjoy me speaking to him at that hour. I was bursting with stories of my all night adventure. Things I learned while surfing the web, random thoughts I had, plans I had made for the next 10 years of our life together. (I have completely planned 4 great vacations) And he just wanted to say good morning as he does every morning then continue with the morning news on the radio; I could hear it in his voice. So I shut up, and when I see him this evening, I will be to exhausted to talk, so all of that stuff that is rattling around in my head will be lost. I think that is why our relationship works. He respects that my mind moves at 90 miles an hour, I respect that sometimes; ok maybe a lot of times, he just wants me to shut up.

A Good Good Friday

Lilies just shout spring!
I am preparing for Easter dinner today. I will get the ham today, and whatever else I need to make a meal for my men. T2 and T3 are coming for brunch. T1 is working, so C will be spending time with her family. I will see them next weekend at the baby shower. I wanted to share a recipe for Bourbon Glazed Ham today. Now, if you have never had Bourbon Glazed Ham, you are missing out. I will put pictures and the recipe on my recipe page after Easter. I don't want to bake a ham just for pictures on the blog. But you can serve this ham any time. And let me warn you, since I was given this recipe, I have baked a ham once a month, which is quite a bit of ham considering Denim Dan and I are the only ones who eat it, but eat it we do - until it is gone.
Anyway on to the recipe

Bourbon Glazed Ham
In a small sauce pan mix 1 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup Dijon mustard, and 4 tbls bourbon*. Heat until the sugar melts. Put a spiral cut bone in ham in a roasting pan, bone up so that the face of the ham is flat on the pan. Pour the glaze over the ham and bake at 300 degrees for 2 hours. Baste the ham every 30 minutes or so.
*you can substitute apple juice

Now let me tell you - this will be the best ham you have ever eaten. I could drink that glaze. Any you might be tempted to do just that, but if you do, please wait until after it has been cooked so the alcohol has cooked off. We don't need any drunks in the kitchen!

I will also be serving egg casserole, cheesy hash browns, cinnamon rolls, biscuits and frozen fruit salad.

Which - by the way is just a smaller version of my Christmas brunch - but hey - it works.
What are your plans for Easter are you making a ham?

What Would You Do if You Won the Lottery

Let me start by saying that I have never bought a lottery ticket. At least I don't think I have, but as sure as I say never, my kids will point out that I am wrong. They are good like that - pointing out when I am wrong.

Anyway - Denim Dan - he buys a lottery ticket every week. He says it is his way of helping the school system. You can see how well that is working, right?

We were talking about a someone he knows that won the lottery 20 years ago - I mean won BIG - and he is broke now.

So what would I do if I won the lottery? I would try to maintain my current life style for one year. I think I would want to get use to the feeling of having money in the bank. You know, serious money in the bank. I probably wouldn't be successful, but I would still try.

Then I would go to my closest friends and family and pay off their debt. What a blessing that would be for me, to be able to do that for someone.

Other than that I would probably buy a whole lot of shoes!
I LOVE these shoes - Of course then I would have to buy a new outfit to wear with them.

These are great too - I would NEVER buy them- I don't have the guts to wear animal print shoes - I am not that hip - but I still like to look at them and try them on.

These are more my style -

I would wear these to a spring wedding. Does anyone need a date to a wedding? I love weddings more than I love these shoes.

I would buy these.

And these, these shoes would look great with jeans.

I would like to have these for the summer.

And these too!

But since I am still unemployed, I will just wear these.

What would you do if you won the lottery? Remember, I don't play so your odds of winning are better than mine.
